Of all the traditional festivals, the Spring Festival is the most important for all Chinese, which is not only celebrated in the mainland, but also in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan though in different parts people celebrate it in different ways. This festival is popular among overseas Chinese as well.

The dinner of Lunar New Year’s eve is the most important to every one. No matter how far he is away, he will try to get home in time for the dinner. While all the family members get around the table, enjoying delicacies, they get much pleasure from the Spring Festival Evening Variety Show by CCTV.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, people usually stay home. On the second and third days, some call on their fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, others go to visit other close relatives or their friends.
The celebration lasts 15 days, holding theatrical festivals, sports contests, temple fairs, dragon shows, etc. The 15thnight is called Lantern Festival. On this day people enjoy all kinds of lanterns and eat tangyuan(kind of rice flour dumplingsi), which symbolizes family union.
